Fred Davie
What’s your background?
I was born and raised in Aberdeen on the north east coast of Scotland where I used to spend much time in the mountains of the eastern Cairngorms. I graduated from Aberdeen University with a BSc and PhD in Chemistry and moved to just north of London to join ICI. I subsequently moved to Yorkshire in 1979, where I have operated at board level in a number of companies until I retired early in 2005.
Explain what you do in 100 words.
I am a self-taught fine art landscape photographer using digital technology.
My aim is to produce atmospheric images capturing the beauty, drama and atmosphere of the location that I am photographing. This usually means operating around dawn and sunset when the available light is at its best. My favourite time of year is autumn when nature’s colours are at their most atmospheric.

Beautiful, dramatic, atmospheric landscape images.
What are you working on at the moment?
Apart from capturing new images for future exhibitions, I am developing a portfolio of photographs titled “Beauty and Danger”. In our landscape beauty and danger often coexist. One of my photos for Great North Art Show which I shot on the Cuillin Ridge on Skye at an altitude of 3,000ft fits into this portfolio.

Plan for success!

The North Yorkshire Coast from Staithes down to Flamborough Head.
Tell us something we don’t know.
I played a major role in bringing the plastic soft drinks bottle to the UK and often wish I hadn’t when I see them polluting the landscape.
