Great North Art Show
Great North Art Show is a Not For Profit Charitable Trust set up to promote Contemporary Art in the North of England. Registered Charity Number 1137814. Companies House No. 07017284.
Great North Art Show is held every September in the magnificent surroundings of Ripon Cathedral. The show was originally inspired by an idea to promote quality Contemporary Art in the North, that is accessible and affordable to all. It has an established reputation as one of the premier leading art exhibitions in the North of England presenting work by some of its finest professional and emerging artists. Every year we welcome thousands of visitors from all over Great Britain and overseas.
Our philosophy is to present a fresh and exciting show, that encompasses a broad blend of disciplines, from painters, printmakers, textile artists, illustrators, photographers, sculptors, ceramicists to video filmmakers; which, at times, will challenge the public perception of what is known as “the Visual Arts” – and yet it will always produce something new for the public to view.
As a charitable trust Great North Art Show has been able to succeed and develop because of the generosity of individuals, through sponsorship and donations, and the enthusiasm of the hundreds of thousands of visitors and supporters, who have come to look at Art in the Cathedral over the last twenty years.
With this in mind, Great North Art Show will continue in its endeavours to uphold the traditions behind open public exhibitions bringing top quality art to all – whilst embracing the exciting natural evolution of Art and all it offers in the future.
