Catherine is a Fine Artist Printmaker. In recent years she been concentrating on some of the many construction sites in the City, investigating and studying the various ways we and others connect with the landscape.
Observing aspects of social change and reinvention she is interested in the way we shape our populated spaces. From converting and re-purposing old streets, to reviving neighbourhoods into popular communities and making open land economically viable her work is based on industrial landscapes close to her home and print studio.
Using roofing grade zinc metal plates etched with nitric acid and lino carved with fine cutting tools her materials come from the construction industry and are used by the artist to capture the ‘present image’ of industry and to form a collaborative narrative about us making a better place.
She is currently Artist in Residence for City of York Council and ISG Construction and has just completed a successful residency for Hiscox Insurance and BAM Construction, where she became part of the York community, the development of Hungate and the social changes being brought about through new investment.
